Quality Control... The Way We Run Our Shop

Quality Control

Quality control is a priority with us as we are fully aware of how important it is to provide trouble-free frames. To prevent problems and produce high-quality frames, we focus on these aspects of workmanship:

Finalizing details before starting manufacturing

It is very important to have all the information before we start a project. Once we start, any interruption of the production line causes a chance of misunderstanding. To prevent communication errors, we start projects only when all information is ready and no changes are needed.

Precision timber sizing

In our CNC production, having timber sizes square is a very important issue for quality achievement. Our dimensions and squareness tolerance is between zero and 1/32 inch.

Because wood moves, we size the timber right before proceeding to the main machine.

Machine calibration

We calibrate the machine at the beginning of each project.

Before cutting a project, we do sample cuts and adjust the machine to 1/16 inch to be sure that we cut the joinery accurately.

Best use of material

We all agree that the best materials should be used in the most visible areas. We try to pick the best materials from the whole supply to place in the most desirable spots. We also orient materials to face with the best surface visible. It is easy to notice this result after the frame is assembled, but it is hard to choose the best materials and orientation during manufacturing because of space and material weight. However, we are aware that this is part of quality control.

Shop drawings

Even though we know that all the parts will be cut precisely, we create shop drawings for each part. We use these drawings to check each part after the parts come out of the machine. We also fine-tune the joinery at this time.

The small blue dot means that this part has been checked with the drawings and meets all our standards and is ready to ship.

Checking procedures

We triple-check the work:

  • The machine operator checks each part against the shop drawing as it comes off the line.
  • The timber dresser checks the length and detail of each timber.
  • The package checker checks each timber against the parts list to make sure that all parts are packed.
